Laparoscopic Spay

Laparoscopic Spay Information

At Shenick Veterinary Centre, we pride ourselves in offering the highest standard of services for your pet. Our highly trained veterinary surgeons are now available to offer laparoscopic spaying as an alternative option to a standard bitch spay.

What is a Laparoscopic Spay?

In traditional bitch spays, both the ovaries and uterus are removed (ovariectomy) through a large incision in the abdominal area. Laparoscopic or keyhole spays are a newer option that involves only the removal of the ovaries (ovariectomy). Extensive research conducted over many years has demonstrated that this method is a safe and effective technique for spaying.

Laparoscopic spays utilise keyhole surgery, which is carried out through two small incisions measuring between 5 to 10 mm, rather than one larger incision that spans several centimetres as seen in conventional spays. Using these tiny incisions, we use an endoscopic camera along with specialized tools to complete the procedure.

Benefits of Laparoscopic Neutering

Laparoscopic surgery has many advantages over traditional surgery. The benefits of keyhole include:

  • Reduction of post operative pain compared with traditional surgery
  • Reduced recovery time
  • No sutures for your pet to lick or chew
  • Studies show a reduction in post operative complications following laparoscopic spay

Cost/ Enquiries:

Laparoscopic spays are more expensive than a conventional spay due to the specialised equipment and training involved, so if you would like an estimate then please call the surgery.

To see if your pet is a suitable candidate, or if you have any further questions about keyhole surgery, then please call the clinic and ask to speak to one of our vets or nurses.
